GM likely to road-test electric car in early '08
Los Angeles, November 15: General Motors Corp is on track to road-test its electric car, the Chevrolet Volt, in early 2008, the automaker's head of global product development said on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters at the Los Angeles auto show, Bob Lutz said the largest U.S. automaker is also on track to launch the Volt in November 2010.
"A lot of our team members working on the Volt keep telling us how aggressive that is," he said. "And it is aggressive. We're not going to let up."
Lutz said GM is testing the lithium-ion battery technology developed by its two suppliers -- A123 Systems and Compact Power Inc, a subsidiary of LG Chem.
"The target is by the end of the first quarter (of 2008) we will have street-drivable prototypes," Lutz said.
